Dreaming of relaxation?   I’ve taken many a vacation that was anything but relaxing .  This weekend I had the chance to visit a little hidden gem of Florida’s Space Coast.  I packed the car and headed to Indialantic, Florida to meet up with some bloggers for a retreat at Tuckaway Shores.  Tuckaway Shores described in one word is relaxation.  Today I’m sharing where to find adventure and relaxation on Florida’s Space Coast.

TuckAway Shores Resort

Tuckaway Shores is the place you visit and feel right at home. The views are breathtaking. The customer service is more than outstanding.  You are called by name immediately, greeted as you come and go and checked in on when needed.  If you have a question or just want someone to chat with the friendly staff is more than welcoming . They make you feel like part of the Tuckaway family.  Tuckaway cares about the little things that will make your stay unique and special.

Available for your pleasure at Tuckaway:

  • Chairs for you to use on the beach
  • Beach Toys for your kids to play with
  • Wood chips and everything else you will need to use the Big Green Egg . You just remember the food.
  • Heated pool

As a mom I appreciate that they have a bag of beach toys and chairs easily available for my use at no extra charge.  Do you know how many times I’ve had to buy beach toys. (Many Many)

Big Green Egg

The food on the Big Green Egg was delicious.  I was surprised to learn that you can cook anything on them not just grilled meats.  As a matter of fact the macaroni cheese was one of my favorites.  Everything was amazing!

The rooms themselves are two room suites. I love having the extra space to put the kids.  There is a full kitchenette in each room. It is very nice   having the ability to have food and drink easily accessible when I stay away from home.  This is a great way to save money on your trip.  There are also 2 televisions in each room. Again this is nice when traveling with the kids although I really did not turn the television on during my stay I’m glad to know they are there.

Things to do on your visit:

Brevard Zoo

Lots of adventure @BrevardZoo!

The Brevard Zoo is a small zoo packed with fun.  I’d say this zoo is more than special offering up kayaking with giraffes , rhinoceros encounters, and even a water area for small children.  Did I mention kayaking with giraffes? Amazing family fun can be found here. Over 16,000 volunteers helped build this zoo which is pretty special.  Plus this zoo focuses on conservation.

Kennedy Space Center was emotional and amazing.  I am still overwhelmed by the sense of patriotism it embodies.  Just think the men who went to the moon they did that before calculators as our fabulous guide pointed out.  I am so shocked by the size of the Atlantis.  In my wildest dreams I never imagined it to size.  And we did that.   Kennedy Space Center is more than a park. You’ll find history, science and fun too. Meet and have lunch with an astronaut definitely a highlight of the day .  Every step of the journey at Kennedy I felt like I was learning  and having fun.

Port Canaveral  is another space coast adventure you won’t want to miss.  Begin with a trip up to the newly built 7 story Exploration Tower.  Exploration Tower offers both hands on learning, and one breathtaking view of the port.   An adult pass to the tower is just $6.50.  The Tower is also the site for special events like concerts and festivals.   An insiders tip come to have dinner at the Port around 4-4:30  the cruise ships are coming and going at this time and you can watch them as you dine . It’s a very exciting and fun atmosphere to be  a part of.

The Beach – Definitely take some time to enjoy the beautiful Florida Beach. Tuckaway Shores offers breathtaking views. The rooms on the first floor had lovely little porch areas that were perfect for families to sit around . The upper floors have balconies that also give you that great view you want when on the water.  I spent some time out with a book and glass of wine. I felt so peaceful here.  When you are done relaxing head on down to catch a wave.  The Space Coast is known for famous surfers.  If you’ve no board or never surfed don’t fret. When visiting the famous Ron Johnson Surf Shop we learned that the space coast produces some of the world’s top surfing competitors. Down from the shop we  discovered you can even rent a board for around $10 so why not give it a try?

Food & Wine on the Space Coast:

Rusty’s Seafood and Oyster Bar is located in the Port. So , when you are finished at the exploration tower head over for a bite to eat.  Trust me when I say you will be glad that you did.  Everything I tasted was delightful . My very favorites though were the crab au gratin which is an appetizer dish and boy is it yummy.  Then the key lime pie which is homemade perfection.

Grab an early breakfast or brunch at Sand on the Beach. While you wait for your food you’ll be greeted with a beautiful view of the Atlantic Ocean .  The breakfast was fantastic friends.  I enjoyed strawberry belgian waffles and a side of home fries.  Both were cooked  perfection. I can also tell you that the french toast and omelets got rave reviews at my table and looked too good to take a bite from.  Sand  on the beach is both is also home to the bikini bar.  Just a really beachy atmosphere and fun place to hang out.

East Coast Winery is another special local attraction.  Featuring Florida wine and beer tastings and sales. There were so many varieties to choose from.  I sampled several but my favorite was Key Lime.  This wine is crisp and full of flavor not too tart not too sweet a perfect blend to sizzle your taste buds.  Tuckaway Shores and the Space Coast was a great time.  It is an adventure I would definitely take again with a smile on my face.  A great place to just get away from all of the everyday stresses of life.  A great place to discover Old Florida.

Florida sounds wonderful ! I live there & went to college and it was a great time in my lfe but now I live 3000 miles away ! Took the kid’s to Disney World in the 80’s !

  11. I love Kennedy Space Center! I went there for the first time on a field trip in 6th grade. I haven’t been in a few years, but my husband and I keep saying we need to go, especially since one of my friends from college works there. We are going to try to make it out there for the next rocket launch on December 5th (I think that is the date, but I could be off a few days). If you never had the chance to see a shuttle launch, you missed out, it is an INCREDIBLE experience! So definitely try to see a rocket or any kind of launch, they are amazing, and there are plenty of places to view besides at Kennedy Space Center.
