Fishing at Lake Altoona 1

Fishing at Lake Altoona

Sometimes you don’t need to travel far from home to have a little fun this summer. If you’re traveling to Wisconsin or already in Wisconsin, take the kids fishing or for a swim at Lake Altoona County Park.

We live in a small town but it has a wonderful beach and fishing area. You don’t have to have a boat to enjoy fishing at Lake Altoona.

My parents have been enjoying fishing at Lake Altoona this week so today we decided to join them. The kids brought their poles and off we went. If you drive past the boating doc, there is a great secluded fishing area that is actually handicap accessible. You can fish right from the doc or there’s a few spots to fish in the shade.

The kids had a few bites on their line but it was Grandma that caught the only fish. It was a bit tiny…she had to throw it back but the kids loved seeing the fish on the line. They claimed Grandma’s fish as theirs too. Not big enough for Grandpa’s frying pan though. 😉 The kids got a little bored when they weren’t catching any fish but they stayed for a good 2 hours so that was a huge accomplishment and lesson in patience.

We’ve also been swimming at the beach a couple of times this week. The kids love it. They have two big docks that the kids can jump off of. Thankfully it’s not too deep at the end of the docks so I don’t have to worry that they’ll be jumping in over their heads.

With a parking fee of only $3 at the beach, it’s an inexpensive way to keep cool…it’s much cheaper than taking all four kids to the city pool.

We had a fun day of swimming and fishing at Lake Altoona today. Do you have a local beach or fishing hole?
