Have some fun, and learn some new things at Discovery Center at Murfree Spring

DiscoveryCenter

If you are planning a trip to the Country Music capital of the world in Tennessee and you are looking for something fun to do with your kids, why not make a short drive to the neighboring town of Murfreesboro and check out the Discovery Center at Murfree Springs! This is a great outing for the whole family, and your kids will be having so much fun they won’t even realize they are learning something new!

According to their website Discovery Center at Murfree Spring is a hands-on museum and nature center that inspires exploration, enhances learning, and builds confidence through diverse programs and exhibits. This museum is not the kind with exhibits behind glass and “don’t touch this!” signs everywhere. It is a hands on learning experience, and kids of any age are sure to have a great time.

Here are some of my family’s favorite exhibits at the  Discovery Center at Murfree Spring:

The Shadow Room- This room is SO fun! When the lights are on you see a simple white wall, and you can strike a pose and hold it for a few seconds then step away with the lights off and you see your shadow “freeze” in place thanks to the phosphorescent wall.

The Firetruck- Everyone loves to watch firetrucks go by right? Well at the Discovery Center at Murfree Spring you can actually get in the firetruck! While having fun hanging out in the firetruck you will also learn important fire safety and the history of firefighters in Murfreesboro.

Tiny Town and the Farmers Market- Both of these areas are great for imaginative play. Jaiden (the oh-so-cute little girl in the above photos) liked hanging out in Tiny Town the best. She loved how they had a grocery store, hardware store, a cottage, a postal store, and a music store! The farmers market is great for teaching the importance of buying local, fresh produce too!

Water Works- Water works was probably the busiest part of the entire museum and for good reason, it was so much fun!You can  crank, funnel, pour, squirt, measure, and float different items. Your kids can have fun playing in the water  through a series of pulleys, pumps, wheels and pipes that show the different ways water can be used. Chances are you’re going to get wet (they do have water proof vests you can put on) So we save this for last.
