Places to go in Tennessee: Memphis Zoo

Disclosure: I was provided tickets to the Memphis Zoo in Memphis, Tennessee for review purposes only. All opinions are my own.

Recently, I got the chance to go check out the awesome Memphis Zoo while taking a trip to check out the city! I have a 5 year old who loves all things animals, so this was a perfect place for us to visit while we were in town!  Plus, it was only about a mile away from our hotel in Downtown Memphis, so it was super convenient!

Here is a little info  about the Memphis Zoo:

The Memphis Zoo was established in 1906 by Col. Robert Galloway who wanted to open the Zoo to house a southern black bear named Natch. “Today, the Memphis Zoo stands as a crown jewel for the city. It is Memphis’s highest attended attraction and is ranked the top zoo in the country by two independent surveys. The Zoo’s conservation programs circle the globe – from cooperative programs in China for giant pandas to local efforts to save the Louisiana pine snake. More than 90,000 children see the Zoo on annual field trips and more than 100,000 people visit on free admission every year.” according to their website. The Memphis Zoo is home to over 250 animals from all over the world and the setting inside the zoo is just beautiful!

Here are some of the things our family enjoyed at the Memphis Zoo:

Stingray Reef- This was such a cool part of the Memphis Zoo! It is an extra charge (only $4) but you get to get up close and personal with these cute animals (and it’s perfectly safe!) It’s a great choice for young children and adults! My little girl loved petting the stingrays, and one of them even gave her a little splash with their fins!

Feeding the Giraffes-  This was my personal favorite thing that the Memphis Zoo offers. For $5 you get a handful of lettuce and a prime spot to check out some of the cutest animals at the zoo! We were on a raised platform and were able to feed the giraffes by ourselves. My little girl had such a good time feeding the giraffes and petting them, they were super friendly! I do suggest getting in line early, they only open this up at certain times of the day, and only have a certain amount of food to give out.

The Birds and the Bees- This was a cute part of the zoo where we got to check out some honeybees and feed some birds! It was $1 for a feeding stick and the birds were very friendly and would fly right onto your stick and eat! The birds were so pretty and it was my daughters favorite thing to do at the zoo!

zoo7

The Animals-  Of course, the best part about the Memphis Zoo was all the awesome animals! All the animals were easily seen and beautiful! They had such a wide variety, and really exceeded my expectations!

My and my family had a great time at the Memphis Zoo and highly recommend visiting it if you are planning on visiting Memphis!
